“We urge G7 leaders to be as brave as women and girls are every single day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We expect G7 states to urgently adopt, fully implement and fund, the most ambitious legislative frameworks on combating gender based violence against women in order to create a fair, safe and dignified world for its constituents. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This goes beyond politics, and left and right. We are simply asking member states to protect universal human rights and be the leaders we know they can be. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As human beings, please do not be passive bystanders to the attacks and roll backs we see happening all around us and every day on women’s rights all across the world – be active participants in moving us forward.” ~ @g7Gender Equality Advisory Council, Paris 2019

? ”The role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible.” ~ Toni Cade Bambara Honoured to be back in Paris with my colleagues for round two of @g7Gender Equality Advisory Council meetings to complete our proposed document for the Biarritz Agreement. I had the opportunity to meet with @women7official (a coalition of civil society organizations & feminist leaders) who are advocating that @g7 make concrete commitments to finance feminist movements around the world. Financial commitments are essential – without them it’s impossible to implement gender equality laws and make them a reality in the world. I sincerely hope we can realise their vision of creating a feminist #G7!

? With the awareness generated by #metoo, there is an increased demand for support services as more people are emboldened to name what happened to them.❣️Rape Crisis Centres❣️offer much-needed support to people who have been assaulted across England and Wales (@rapecrisisew), but demand way outstrips supply.❗️This time last year, there were 6,355 survivors on Rape Crisis waiting lists and these can be as long as 14 months.‼️ This means that if a survivor calls to look for support they may be turned away… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⌛️? Successive UK governments have failed to fund life-saving services. There are just 44 Rape Crisis Centres in England and Wales. ? But the Istanbul Convention (which our Government will soon ratify) sets out a minimum provision of support for victims of rape which would require that there be 150 Rape Crisis Centres in England and Wales. ? It’s simply unacceptable that a country like mine falls so far short of the minimum standards set across Europe. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ?❤️✍? So on #IWD2019, I encourage you to sign Fern’s petition ??LINK IN BIO??and demand that Theresa May guarantees sustained ? funding for rape crisis support services, ? so the survivors of sexual violence can access the support they need. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ??✍? tinyurl.com/FernsPetition ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ???? These are the words of 25-year-old Fern Champion, who was raped in 2016 and has launched a petition ? asking the Prime Minister to ensure that specialist rape counselling support is always available for everyone who seeks it: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ?? ? “By not adequately funding support services this Government is telling survivors that their recovery does not matter and by extension that they do not matter. When you have been raped, the vital, life-saving counselling should just be there when you need it.” ??❤️?? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☎️ RAPE CRISIS NATIONAL HELPLINE: 0808 802 9999 (rapecrisis.org.uk)

? It’s a minefield out there in the fashion world !! Fair trade, organic, sustainable, ethical, vegan, carbon neutral, artisanal, fast fashion, slow fashion. What does it all mean?! ??‍♀️ Does it matter? What matters most? How do I choose? What is green washing? Which information or recommendations do I trust? ? I was SO happy (and relieved!) to find the @goodonyou_app team because their app made the information easy and accessible for me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ They take into account information from over 50 certification schemes, standard systems and NGO rating projects. Then they break down and rate brands based on their impact on ? labour, ? the environment and ? animals, rating them either ‘Great’, ‘Good’, ‘It’s a Start’, ‘Not Good Enough’ and ‘We Avoid’. They also suggest ethical alternatives to anything you might be looking for. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Their articles are also brilliant, up to date and on the button. You can also favourite any brands you want to remember. ????‍? Check them out ?

???? #Repost@gloriasteinem “3rd edition out today with a new foreword by my dear @emmawatson. I had a lot of fun updating it, hope you’ll feel the same reading it!” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ?❤️ “Why do I love Gloria’s writing so much? She makes what otherwise can be arduous and depressing reading, into something not only relatable but enjoyable…She believes in personal testimony – the sharing and passing on of women’s stories…She uncovers things that are obscured by today’s conditioning and normalizing which when exposed, are absolutely fascinating…Her plain common sense – calling things out as they are – will make you laugh out loud… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sometimes the world she envisions seems so far out and impossible to me or just wildly optimistic. But I have come to believe it is through radical feminism and the radical nature of Gloria’s message, that the job of equality will get done. I used to think the citadel didn’t have to topple. Now I believe it just might and should, and that we need to let old ways of being die for something new to be born. This book contains ideas for that new road, even though some were written almost forty years ago. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ People have asked me what the feminist movement needs to succeed. A new word? More men involved? I would rephrase the question. What obstacles need to be removed for us to succeed? In order to win our full humanity, in life, we have to confront the biggest superpower in the world: the patriarchy… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I never liked the idea of being a rebel. I played Hermione Granger, for goodness sake, who once famously compared the notion of being expelled to death! I remember thinking my first detention was the end of the world. But of all the things to fight for, I’d say freedom and respect are pretty good ones! And if I can do it with, and in the wake of, women like Gloria, all the better. And actually, as Hermione and I learned, being disruptive was quite fun after all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, have your mind blown, laugh out loud, think in new ways, get angry, feel the feminist affinity…This was the first collection of feminist writing Gloria ever published…I hope they become as precious to you.” ??

? One of the most memorable moments of TIME’S UP in the UK for me has been the launch of the Justice and Equality Fund (the UK’s version of the Legal Defence Fund), which aims to support women who have experienced harassment and abuse, improve accountability, and prevent future abuses from occurring. ? The JEF offers much-needed funds to existing expert services and to grassroots activism. ? Many people don’t realise that very basic services which protect and care for women in the UK are under threat, and it’s incredible the difference the fund has made in a short space of time. ? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Justice and Equality Fund (JEF) has already resourced the vital work of organisations like ???London Black Women’s Project, who provide specialist support to women of colour and migrant survivors of abuse, and ??‍⚖️ Rights of Women, who will resource a free and confidential helpline led by women lawyers offering legal advice to women experiencing sexual harassment. ☎️❤️ The JEF has also supported keeping the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre for England and Wales helpline open and is resourcing the first rape crisis service provision in Northern Ireland in 12 years. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⭐️ I hope that more people will be inspired by the #TIMESUPanniversary to give at home here in the UK, so the Justice and Equality Fund can reach even more under-resourced organisations and campaign groups in 2019. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✨ To donate go to uk.gofundme.com/Justice-and-Equality-Fund ✨

Thank you to everyone who has been part of TIME’S UP over the past year. ? From my sisters in the film industry to the activists and campaigners around the world who have supported us, I’ve been so inspired by the way people have reached out to each other, shared experiences and advice, and organised together as part of this movement for change. ? Gender equality can only become a reality if we harness the transformative power of solidarity across professions and across borders. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There’s still a long way to go, but the achievements so far make me optimistic for a fairer future. 2018 was just the beginning. ?? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ?
